Screw dieselgate, oil-burners are still cool!
With all the controversy surrounding Volkswagen and their EPA cheating devices, all diesel engines are getting a pretty bad rap. This BBM Motorsport BMW 350D 3T is bringing back that torquey, oil-burning fun with a big freakin’ hammer of power and fun.
What may look like your standard E91 BMW 330d wrapped in a blue metallic wrap by SFT Carwrap is anything but. The factory turbodiesel engine was replaced with the triple-turbo 3.0-liter Wünderdiesel N57S engine and its eight-speed gearbox from the M550d xDrive. Power quickly rose to 440 horsepower and 627 lb-ft. of torque after a BBM Chiptuning software tune. Both the front and rear axles were taken from the E92 BMW M3 to handle the added power, with the latter benefitting from a 0- to 100-percent locking limited slip differential and 2.81:1 final drive ratio.
Armed with the diesel engine of the stars, the BBM 350D 3T can accelerate to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and from 62 to 124 mph in 9.8 seconds. Top speed has also been pushed back to 184 mph.
With the beefed up output, the BBM Motorsport team had to upgrade the chassis of the 350D 3T. Hitting the asphalt are Z-Performance ZP10 wheels measuring 8.5 x 19 ET35 up front and 9.5 x 19 ET35 at the rear strapped with 225/35/19 and 255/30/19 Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Behind those wheels sit Stoptech brakes with an ST60 six-piston, 380 x 35 mm front setup and ST40 four-piston calipers with 355 x 32 mm discs at the rear. Bringing it all down closer to the pavement is a KW Clubsport adjustable suspension for better handling dynamics for the turbodiesel wagon.
Inside, the BBM 350TD 3T is geared towards the driver. New BMW Performance Rercaro seats provide better side support while an E92 M3 speedometer puts the car’s added performance on display. A new flat-bottom BMW Performance steering wheel with grippier Alcantara and gear shift paddles adds even more control.
