More Power + Less Weight = More Speed.
The BMW E9X-generation of M3 models has been put out to pasture in favor of the two-headed monster that is the new F8X M3 and M4 with their high-tech, track-focused design and turbocharged inline-sixes.
However, G-Power is still having quite a bit of fun with those old, high-revving V-8s and the now-ancient, previous-gen M3 models thanks to some lightweight upgrades and forced induction. Armed with over 30 years of experience, they applied the simple formula of adding power and cutting weight to make the sports cars even faster.
The G-Power team started by cutting the weight on the M3 RS E9X program. They used detailed CAD programs to design carbon fiber aerodynamic parts for a bespoke, functional solution to going faster. The most noticeable is the vented Carbon Venturi ‘RR’ hood that weighs in at 18.5 lbs. – a 5.7-lb. reduction. The hood helps to dissipate heat and cool the engine bay so that the ECU program doesn’t cut power when a predetermined temperature is exceeded for the sake of reliability.
The G-Power M3 RS E9X carbon diet program continues at the front fascia where a new ‘RS’ front spoiler with/without air intakes reduces lift. A new ‘RS’ carbon fiber trunk lid cuts another 11.0 lbs. of weight and wears a new GTS-style carbon fiber wing spoiler that generated downforce yet weighs a mere 2.6 lbs. thanks to CNC-machined aluminum struts.
The weight reduction program didn’t stop with the body either. The high-revving V-8 was paired up with a new hand-made G-Power titanium exhaust system with 100-cell metal sport catalytic converters that sheds 57 lbs. over the factory steel system while also reducing backpressure.
The G-Power BMW M3 RS E9X program also includes a healthy dose of power. The 4.0-liter V-8 engine saw its displacement grow to 4.6 liters and new forged MAHLE pistons were installed. Each cylinder is force fed by an ASA T1-724 supercharger system with high-efficiency charge-air intercooler, while a customized oil and water cooling system was installed to keep temperatures within the limits for better reliability.
The resulting power puts the G-Power BMW M3 RS E9X into the realm of modern super cars. A total of 740 horsepower at 8,100 RPM and 516 lb-ft. of torque at 5,900 RPM sends the sports car to 62 mph from rest in 3.7 seconds and 124 mph in 9.5 seconds. Top speed is all the way back at 211 mph.
The final aspect of the lightweight, high-speed transformation are new G-Power Hurricane RR forged wheels that reduce rotating mass for better overall performance. The 9.0 x 20 front and 10.5 x 20 rear wheels wear sticky 245/30 ZR20 and 295/25 ZR20 Michelin tires. G-Power offers the wheels in three different finishes along with a polished version to suit customer’s tastes.
The G-Power BMW M3 RS E9X is currently available as an entire package or customers can order individual accessories for their E9X-generation M3 model.
