The ultimate Mercedes-AMG S65 Coupe.
Every so often, the team at Brabus decides to break the mold and create an absolute monster with utterly incredible power and performance. At the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show, the Brabus Rocket 900 Coupe will make its official debut and shatter speed and performance barriers thought to be impenetrable for a Mercedes-AMG S65 Coupe.
The transformation from Mercedes-AMG S65 Coupe to Brabus Rocket 900 Coupe starts with the twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V-12 engine under the hood. Here, Brabus engine builders increased the displacement to 6.3 liters (384 cu. In.) by boring out each cylinder and installing corresponding pistons alongside a billet crankshaft with longer stroke and precision-balanced rods. Two larger Brabus turbochargers feed in more boost and work with modified exhaust manifolds. New 80 mm downpipes send exhaust gasses into free-flow metal catalytic converters and to the valve-controlled stainless steel performance exhaust ending in ceramic-coated tips. A new Brabus 900 intake module brings air through the radiator grille into two air boxes. The charge air temperatures are kept low thanks to “Gold Heat Reflection” sheathing for that high-end, high-performance touch.
Power is sent to the rear wheels on the Brabus Rocket 900 Coupe via a seven-speed automatic gearbox that has been modified to handle the added power, coupled with a Brabus limited-slip differential with 40-percent locking rate.
After a specially-developed ECU tune, the Brabus Rocket 900 Coupe creates 900 horsepower (887 bhp) at 5,500 RPM and peak torque of 1,106 lb-ft. of torque at 4,200 RPM. For reliability purposes, torque is limited to 884 lb-ft. That allows the heavily modified S65 Coupe to reach 62 mph from rest in 3.7 seconds and 124 mph in 9.1 seconds. Top speed is all the way back at 217 mph, which forced Brabus to add on their 250 mph speedometer inside the gauge cluster.
Handling that incredible amount of power produced by the larger 6.3-liter V-12 in the Brabus Rocket 900 Coupe are a range of in-house Monoblock forged wheels delivering high strength and low weight characteristics. On the Geneva show car, Brabus Monoblock F wheels wearing a black finish measure 9.0J x 21 up front and 10.5J x 21 at the rear with 255/35 ZR21 and 295/30 ZR21 Continental, Pirelli, or Yokohama high performance tires. As an option, five-spoke Monoblock G can be fitted in a 22-inch diameter with corresponding tires. Working in conjunction with the new wheels and low-profile tires is a Brabus lowering module that reduces ride height by 0.6 inches (15 mm).
Visually, the Brabus Rocket 900 Coupe keeps the sleek and smooth factory lines but has a touch of intimidation. A full carbon fiber aero kit was designed in a wind tunnel to provide optimum air flow and downforce. Up front, a new front spoiler and newly styled air intakes reduce lift and channel air while a naked carbon diffuser with exhaust cutouts, side air outlets, and trunk spoiler keep things stable at high speeds. Carbon fiber is also used for the side mirror covers for a more uniform, athletic look.
While the story of the Brabus Rocket 900 Coupe lies under the hood, the interior takes that of the Mercedes-AMG S65 AMG a step further. The Geneva show car features a light bright and magnolia Brabus fine leather interior with beige topstitching and “fire” piping across the seats. Custom umbra-colored wood trim with open-pore surfaces creates a lighter, high-end atmosphere. The sporty nature of the super car is evident with the aluminum Brabus race paddle shifters, pedals, and door pins. New scuff plates feature an illuminated ‘Brabus 900’ logo that changes color to match the ambient lighting.
The new Brabus 900 Rocket Coupe based on the Mercedes-AMG S65 AMG Coupe is currently available as a complete vehicle and will be shown at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show.
