Although the BMW X5 M is an SUV with a significant amount of mass, it still knows a thing or two about going fast and carving up corners. Thankfully, the BMW tuning experts at G-Power have been able to create three different stages of tuning for the mighty German SUV that unlocks its true potential under the hood.
The twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine packed into the BMW X5 M has a ton of power that’s just waiting to be tapped into and G-Power has unleashed it. In Stage 1, customers can choose from either the G-Power Bi-Tronik 5 V1 plug-and-play module or the Bi-Tronik 2 V1 ECU remap that is tailored to each individual vehicle. No matter what option customers go with, they’re left with a healthy 642 horsepower and 627 lb-ft. of torque.
In Stage 2, the BMW X5 M gains the G-Power Bi-Tronik 5 V2 or Bi-Tronik 2 V2 upgrades the backpressure is reduced through two stainless steel downpipes. This helps push output all the way up to 700 horsepower and 667 lb-ft. of torque.
The top-dog in Stage 3 sees the BMW X5 M’s V-8 gain a pair of larger turbine and compressor wheels for the turbochargers to create more boost pressure within newly machined housings. Exhaust gasses are sent through the full stainless steel downpipes and a bespoke titanium exhaust system with dual rear mufflers and quad 100-mm tailpipes. Besides backpressure being cut down, a total of 51 lbs. is shed from the new exhaust. After the G-Power Bi-Tronik 2 V3 software tune is installed and set up to accommodate the new hardware, the BMW X5 M produces a whopping 750 horsepower at 6,500 RPOM and 723 lb-ft. of torque from 3,000 to 4,500 RPM.
That incredible increase in power is enough to send the super-SUV through the quarter-mile in just 11.5 seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 186 mph.
Aiding in the grip and handling department for the BMW X5 M is a set of G-Power GX5M-RS coilovers that reduce ride height and the center of gravity. Putting the 700+ horsepower down are lightweight 11.0 x 23 G-Power Hurricane RR forged alloy wheels with 325/25 ZR23 high-performance tires for added traction.
