Taking Sweden by storm.
In May of 2012, the new TTA Racing Elite League will hold its first race in Karlskoga, Sweden. Participating in the race will be four new Polestar S60 TTA-spec models; two under Volvo Polestar Racing, and two under Volvo Polestar Performance.
“We have had a big pressure on us from many curious Volvo enthusiasts as it is a new championship and a new racing car. That is why we chosen to reveal the car now. Our final team colors are going to be shown later, but this is our S60 in TTA racing specification,” said Alexander Murdzevski, Commercial Director of Volvo Motorsport Sweden.
The four new S60 TTA cars will utilize advanced technology in their race for the checkered flag. A 420 horsepower V-6 engine with KERS will power the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters. Each Polestar S60 will wear a lightweight carbon fiber body, center-locking 18-inch wheels, and 260/660-18 front and 280/60-18 rear tires.
“Motorsport must be cool, exciting and fair. We must fight our meanest competitors in our best selling models. We must be able to win by doing the best job and it should be easy for importers in the country to change racing car when changing model without the need of a heavy factory programme. We are really looking forward to the TTA – Racing Elite League 2012,” said Anders Gustafsson, Managing Director of Volvo Cars Sweden.
So far, drivers Robert Dahlgren, Fredrik Ekblom and Thed Björk have been confirmed for three of the S60 TTA racecars. The fourth and final driver has not yet been named, but will be announced soon. The Polestar S60 TTA racecars will make their debut on May 12th in Karlskoga, Sweden. Volvo has committed to participating in the TTA Racing Elite League until 2015.
