Coming back for the checkered flag.
It has been 50 years since Morgan won the 2.0-liter GT class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Chris Lawrence and Richard Shepherd-Barron piloted a Morgan Plus 4 to victory in the 1962 endurance race. Since then, Morgan has been absent from the podium and pulled out of the race.
For 2012, the British company is returning to Le Mans with a new Morgan LMP2 racecar. The new Morgan Le Mans racer was built in collaboration with OAK Racing and is powered by a Judd engine.
To generate some hype for the new Morgan Le Mans LMP2 racer, the company put together some footage of the car’s testing with all sorts of uncensored engine noise and screeching tires as it drives through the track at Le Mans in preparation for the 2012 race in June.
The Morgan LMP2 car has yet to be painted, as it is in the testing phase, but just seeing the car makes us excited to see the British automaker and OAK Racing participating in the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans.
