Tony Stark, your NSX is ready.
In the upcoming movie, The Avengers, Acura will have a large presence throughout the film as super heroes such as Tony Stark battle evil. Edmunds Inside Line was lucky enough to get behind the scenes access to the new fleet of Acura Avenger cars and spoke with Acura’s Division Director for Auto Design, Dave Marek, about the new NSX that will be featured in the movie.
There are three Acura Avengers cars that will be seen in the movie and used by Tony Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D (Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-enforcement Division). The Acura MDX will be the S.H.I.E.L.D off-road pursuit vehicle and was given a coat of matte black paint, fender flares, bash bar, and off-road wheels and tires. The 2012 Acura TL Advanced Package will be the S.H.I.E.L.D street pursuit vehicle and is completely stock except for the flat black paint, lights, and bash bar.
The most anticipated of the Acura Avenger Cars is the new NSX Roadster, but it’s not what you think. Under its multi-million dollar, handcrafted skin is a 252,000 mile 1991 Acura NXS from Arizona. Because the new Acura NSX wasn’t ready in time to film the movie, the folks at Cinema Vehicle Services were given the task of building the new car using the old car. The Acura NSX roadster cannot go over 10 mph due to the fact that the body panels will fly off if it goes any faster. Still, the new NSX Roadster looks very futuristic and extremely close to the production model.
