Spyshot time!
As the new Porsche 991 911 models start to roll out of Stuttgart, there’s one car that the automotive world is looking forward to – the 991 GT3. The GT3 models have always been the track-oriented, naturally aspirated, super cars that carve up corners and aren’t about luxury amenities.
Luckily for us, Porsche hasn’t been covering their 991 GT3 test cars in much camouflage, giving us a look at what’s to come for the track-day superstar. Now, the one thing that is likely to ruffle the feathers of Porsche enthusiasts all over is that the new 911 GT3 models will be offered with a PDK dual-clutch transmission (oh the humanity). The 911 GT3s have only been offered with manual transmissions in the past, so this comes as a big surprise to many. But, the new PDK was added in the name of performance and will likely use different ratios and feature a few other goodies compared to the standard 911 Carrera’s PDK transmissions.
The new 991 GT3 is also expected to build upon the new flat-six engines instead of the 4.0-liter flat-six that was used in the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 models. Power figures have been pegged at 450 to 480 ponies, so this should be quite a fun rear-engined car to play with.
From what we can see in the spy photos and video, the new 911 GT3 will come standard with the big rear spoiler, unique front and rear aerodynamic bodywork, and the 911 Carrera 4 widebody design. It also has quite a few design cues from the legendary Porsche 911 2.7 RS such as the center air inlet on the front bumper. Porsche will also use the motorsport-inspired center-locking wheels to save every ounce of weight.
In the end, the new 991 GT3 will be lower, faster, handle better, and be tons of fun no matter what gearbox is being used. We can’t wait for the official specs and pictures to be released. Check back for the update because it’s likely coming soon!
