A bargain for the automotive design enthusiast.
Afzal Kahn has owned many cars over his lifetime thanks to his hard work and success. One of the first Ferrari models to ever be purchased by the British entrepreneur was a 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello Coupé Chassis no. ZFFZR49C000111360 that just recently went to auction.
While it may not be the fastest, the most stylish, or the most powerful car that Kahn has ever owned, it was still something special as it represented the hard work and effort he had put forth into his business. After Kahn sold the Ferrari, the now-previous owner kept it for a number of years and performed all of the standard maintenance and registrations for the super car before he brought it to Bonhams to be auctioned.
The Ferrari 550 Maranello brought back the front-engined grand tourer to the Italian automaker’s lineup and was aerodynamically designed by Pininfarina. The super car was packed with a number of technological advancements including independent suspension with dual-mode damping, a tubular steel chassis, four-cam 5.5-liter V-12 engine with 485 bhp at 7,000 RPM, and a six-speed transaxle drivetrain layout.
At the Bonhams auction, the 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello with 45,000 miles sold for £41,400, making it quite the bargain compared to similar examples that have been selling for £50,000. The super car was created by an Italian design house and owned by a British designer, giving it quite the story to tell to the new owner.
