A Swedish supercar with a Viking’s axe.
Fifteen years ago, Christian von Koenigsegg developed his first supercar concept, the Koenigsegg CC. Koenigsegg’s latest creation, the Agera, fulfills the principals of performance and innovation first established by the CC, combining superior performance, state-of-the-art technology, and visionary styling.
The Koenigsegg Agera is a futuristic evolution of the classic Koenigsegg design that started with the CC. Using the latest in carbon fiber technology, the body of the Agera is made from both pre-impregnated carbon fiber/Kevlar and sandwich reinforcements. The chassis is constructed from a carbon fiber and aluminum honeycomb contributing to a light weight of only 2832 pounds. The Agera achieves a drag coefficient of 0.35, and produces over 660 pounds of downforce at 155 mph. Underneath the rear of the chassis are Venturi tunnels which create a low pressure area under the car, keeping it planted to the tarmac. Optionally, the Koenigsegg Agera can be ordered with a robotized rear wing and a completely clear-coated carbon fiber body – because you can never have enough carbon fiber.
In collaboration with Michelin, specially developed unidirectional tires with an asymmetric tread pattern are used to contribute to a maximum lateral G-force of 1.6 G. Measuring 255/35 19 at the front and 335/30 20 at the rear, the tires are fitted to center locking forged aluminum wheels. The wheels have been designed to generate a vortex, which reduces the aerodynamic drag around the wheels while the Koenigsegg Agera is in motion. Behind the wheels are large 6-piston ceramic brakes featuring an adjustable ABS system for optimum braking performance.
Mounted behind the driver in the Koenigsegg Agera is a 4.7-liter V-8 force-fed by two wailing turbo superchargers. Push the pedal to the floor and the Agera becomes a raging Berserker, producing a furious 910 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of tire-shredding torque. The powerful V-8 features a patented response charge system for increased response as 1.5 BAR (21.76 PSI) of boost is forced into the engine. A tig-welded ceramic-coated inconell exhaust system manifold with merge collector sends a battle cry from the center-mounted exhaust. The roaring Agera sprints to 62 mph in just 3.1 seconds, and reaches 124 mph after 8.9 seconds. Top speed is expected to be in excess of 245 mph – look out Veyron this Swede knows speed.
Inside the Koenigsegg Agera is a clean and intelligent sci-fi interior. For the first time in the automotive industry, a new type of Ghost light interior illumination is used. Developed by Koenigsegg, invisible nanotubes shine light through billet aluminum buttons for superb visibility. A new multi-info cluster shows brake horsepower, boost pressure, speed, and gear selection in a cutting-edge display. For additional information and functions, an infotainment display features navigation, a G-force meter, lap times, and a compass. A carbon fiber center console and center and tunnel assembly contributes to the sporty character, while Koenigsegg Agera stitching and seams provide beauty and comfort.
The Koenigsegg Agera will be produced alongside the CCX and CCXR, and feature the Koenigsegg doors and detachable hardtop. Pricing for the Agera has not been released and will be announced at a later date.
