Bringing the Blancpain Super Trofeo to the streets.
There are many companies around the globe that claim to make street-legal race cars from factory performance models. Oftentimes, this is done by adding some new bodywork, tuning the engine a tad, lowering the suspension and adding new wheels, throwing in some sport seats, and calling it a race car. Well, the team at RENM Performance does make a street-legal race car that’s more than your average performance tuning program. Their new Lamborghini Gallardo STS-700 is the closest thing to a Blancpain Super Trofeo racer that you can legally drive on the road, and involves an incredibly thorough upgrade program from the engine to the interior.
“The STS-700 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and reaches a top speed over 330 km/h”, says Neil Meka, CEO, RENM performance. “However, improved driving dynamics and track performance are the main advantages. Significant reductions in lap times were recorded throughout the vehicle’s development.”
The new RENM Performance STS-700 Lamborghini Gallardo tiptoes the line between the legalities of being a race car and road-going super car. Things started off with an all-new Super Trofeo race-series carbon fiber composite body kit that reduces weight, improves airflow and cooling, and adds downforce while lowering drag. The kit includes a new front bumper with enlarged air intakes, side flics, and a spoiler, along with a new set of side skirts, rear diffuser with integrated exhaust outlets, and a large rear spoiler. New air inlets help to improve engine and brake cooling to help increase thermal efficiency.
Sitting behind the driver in the RENM Performance STS-700 is a 5.2-liter V-10 that’s been taken apart and reassembled with all sorts of lightweight and high-strength components, and packed with more power than before. The goal wasn’t just more power, but reliable and responsive performance. This was achieved with titanium connecting rods, custom billet pistons and crankshaft with an increased compression ratio, billet camshafts, a larger titanium inlet, new exhaust valves and ports, and manifold and combustion chambers that are equipped with injector, oil, and secondary cooling upgrades. These lightweight and durable parts help to push output all the way to 690 hp (700 PS) at 8,500 RPM, allowing the super car to reach 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed over 205 mph (330 km/h). A race and road-specification valve-controlled titanium exhaust spits out a furious roar and improves flow while reducing weight by 63-percent by cutting weight from the stock 66 lbs. (33 kg) to 24.25 lbs. (11 kg).
One of the most important aspects of a race car is the chassis. Here, RENM Performance gave the Gallardo STS-700 a great deal of upgrades that ensure maximum handling and braking performance can be achieved. The entire wheel track was widened to achieve greater grip and mated with Ohlins three-way adjustable dampers for the street and the track as well as an adjustable front anti-roll bar and double-wishbone links. The factory front height adjuster is compatible with all the suspension upgrades.
From there, the wheels and brakes were upgraded to ensure the RENM Performance STS-700 shines on the track. The factory carbon ceramic brakes were improved with higher-friction pads for greater response and paired up with new cooling inlets that reduce fade in high-performance driving situations. Hiding the carbon ceramic brakes from sight are lightweight magnesium race wheels with race-spec tires for optimum grip.
Inside the cockpit of the RENM Performance STS-700 is a no frills attitude that’s focused on taking the checkered flag. Dark red dominates the interior with black accents, lightweight and grippy alcantara, and carbon fiber. Lightweight racing seats feature red and black alcantara with contrasting stitching with a four-point harness and seatbelts for safety. The gearshifter has been modified for easier and more precise shifts, and a custom roll cage and fire extinguisher provide a safety net for passengers.
The new RENM Performance STS-700 promises Lamborghini Gallardo to bring improved performance and dynamics to the already potent super car and bridge the gap between racer and road-legal car. The entire vehicle upgrade is currently available from RENM Performance.
