Even more performance is in store for the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake.
Mercedes-Benz, along with some other luxury automakers has found success with their low-volume, niche-market models, such as the CLS Shooting Brake. After the car’s success, they focused on an even smaller niche with the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. Now, the team at Väth is getting involved in the game with their new V 63 Shooting Brake conversion for the AMG variant of the five-door coupe with a big behind.
The Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake was given the Väth V 63 Shooting Brake treatment, starting off beneath the hood. The twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 was outfitted with the Väth V63RS kit that includes modified turbochargers, intercooler system, and downpipe exhaust system and rear mufflers to reduce backpressure, along with an ECU tune to create a total of 846 horsepower and 870 lb-ft. of torque. This allows the Väth V 63 Shooting Brake to reach a top speed of 218 mph with proper tires.
The dramatic increase in power requires Väth to equip the five-door coupe with a number of cooling systems to improve reliability and performance. The Väth V 63 Shooting Brake can be equipped with a new oil cooler and transmission oil cooler along with a new fuel cooler that results in lower consumption, better performance, and reduced temperatures in the combustion chamber.
Väth also spent some time with the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake’s chassis to handle the performance improvement. The entire car can be lowered by 20- to 40 mm with adjustable springs up front and an electric lowering module at the rear for better handling dynamics. A high performance braking system with 405 mm discs, six-piston calipers, racing fluid, and stainless steel braided lines up front ensure the Väth V 63 Shooting Brake stops on a dime. The final touch is a set of Väth three-piece forged wheels wearing a dark titanium finish that measure 9.5 x 20 up front and 11.5 x 20 at the rear with 265/30ZR20 and 305/25ZR20 tires.
As with most high performance programs the Väth V 63 Shooting Brake was equipped with lightweight carbon fiber aerodynamics for better stability and style. The front axle is stabilized by a carbon fiber front spoiler, while the large rear of the Shooting Brake is aided by a diffuser with carbon fiber fins.
Inside, carbon fiber is again the name of the game. The Väth V 63 Shooting Brake can be equipped with a full carbon fiber trim set on the dashboard and console. The drivers benefit from an optional 350 km/h speedometer and a sports steering wheel in colored leather, wood, or carbon fiber.
The Väth V 63 Shooting Brake is currently available for both power versions of the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. The full price list for all of the accessories is available at the Väth website.
