For the past few months, the Corvette family and the automotive world as a whole has been recovering from the tragic sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum that damaged some very rare and valuable cars. At the NCM Bash at the Corvette Museum, Callaway Cars unveiled their new 2014 Callaway Corvette with an advanced supercharger system and muffler design that is more ferocious and efficient than ever before.
The new C7 Corvette Stingray is impressive in its own right with its naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine pumping out 455 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. of torque. Callaway Cars was able to put their supercharger experience to work and designed an all-new third-generation supercharger system that has an innovative, patent-pending design.
The new third-generation Callaway Cars supercharger features a newly developed supercharger housing and integrated intake manifold to allow for greater airflow and cooling efficiency. An Eaton 2300 cc TVS rotor pack was chosen due to its proven reliability, thermal efficiency, and OEM build quality and works with a newly designed triple-element intercooler system to reduce inlet charge air. The new supercharger also makes its presence known by popping out of the hood due to its larger volume, which also aids in cooling.
The 2014 Callaway Corvette and its supercharger are tuned to produce a broad torque curve and maximum peak horsepower. The Callaway Cars engineering team was able to achieve this on a consistent basis thanks to the new triple-element intercooler system. The system showed an increase of less than 10-degrees on multiple dynometer runs compared to a minimum of 35-degrees using other intercooler systems. Further enhancing the reliability of the system is a ten-rib drive pulley system that prevents any slippage.
In addition to the newly-fitted supercharger, the 2014 Callaway Corvette also features a new exhaust system with a single muffler that bellows out lower frequency tones with a mean American muscle sound. The backpressure is reduced with the new single-acoustic chamber design and ends with the signature Callaway Cars Double-D tips protruding from the bumper.
Both the supercharger and exhaust system coupled with a high-flow air intake system combine for a total output of at least 620 horsepower and 600 lb-ft. of torque. The new 2014 Callaway Corvette also comes with embroidered floor mats, door sill panels, badging, Callaway key fob, underhood build plaque, and authenticity documentation, as well as a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
The entire 2014 Callaway Corvette package carries a $22,995 price tag for the standard package and is currently available at all Callaway Corvette dealerships.
