Time for some good ‘ol American Power!
Soon another American super car will roll off of the factory line in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The new C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is going to burst onto the scene without any regard for other sports car on the road. It’s the fastest, most powerful, and efficient standard model Corvette and there’s a few reasons for it, namely the new LT1 engine.
The new LT1 engine is going to be all sorts of fun. It will displace 6.2 liters and incorporate all sorts of fancy, new and advanced technology such as direct injection, continuously variable valve timing, an advanced combustion system, tri-lobe camshafts, and more. In all, over ten million hours of research engineering, testing, and more have been poured into the new engine to make it the most powerful and efficient standard engine in a Corvette ever. The engine also boasts new technology that will transform it into a V-4 for better fuel economy until heavier acceleration is needed in certain driving modes. This, along with a few other innovations helps the engine achieve over 26 mpg highway (est.). Tahnks to all of the knowledge gained in racing with the factory C6.R Corvette racing team in the American Le Mans Series, the engine has quite the performance pedigree to back it up. Output is set to be an estimated 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft. of torque, allow it to accelerate to 60 mph in under four seconds.
Putting that power to the ground is a transaxle drivetrain with either a six-speed automatic or seven-speed manual with an optional eLSD for better traction. Checking the Z51 Performance package shortens up the gear ratios a bit and quickens up acceleration for better performance.
General Motors clearly focused on reducing weight with the new C7 Corvette Stingray by utilizing carbon fiber, aluminum, and other composite materials throughout the suspension, chassis, and body. This helps to make the new super car 99 lbs. lighter than the C6-generation Corvette and contributes to a fantastic 50/50 weight distribution for superb handling dynamics. Both the front and rear tracks along with the length was slightly extended to allow for better grip and handling.
Whether you like it or not, the new Corvette is an improvement in terms of performance and efficiency. It may have polarizing styling, but we at MotoringExposure are exciting to see this car’s capabilities.
