Rockin’ on the coast for the Diabetes Research Institute.
One of the best parts of the automotive community is its ability to come together for the benefit a greater cause. Every year, enthusiasts from all over converge on the Long Island town of Glen Cove for a day filled with sports cars, music, food, and fun at Gold Coast Concours/Bimmerstock.
The 2014 Gold Coast Concours/Bimmerstock event was just as impressive and spectacular as previous years. The rain and clouds that covered New York that weekend held off to allow for the perfect day for 650-plus vehicles and thousands of spectators as they converged on the closed streets of Glen Cove.
The 6th annual Gold Coast Concours/Bimmerstock was organized by Co-chairpersons Joe LaPadula and Jon Holzer of Martino Auto Concepts and Exotics4Life.com, Presenting Sponsor along with the local officials of Glen Cove, NY to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute.
“We are pleased to report $75,000 was raised for the cure-focused research of the Diabetes Research Institute this year, with a total of $338,000 over the years. This event has grown into one of the largest automobile shows on the eastern seaboard,” said Joe LaPadula. “It attracts sponsors, vendors and car enthusiasts from around the country, plus since the funds raised go directly to the DRI, we know that everything we do helps fund the effort to find a cure for diabetes. I sincerely appreciate everyone’s help in making this year’s event such an amazing success. All who are associated with the event are grateful to our wonderful friends, sponsors, journal supporters and everyone who registered and displayed a vehicle, for being a part of this special day.”
The annual event has grown considerably since its first year, back in 2009. Supercars from across the East Coast make the trip to the affluent community and line the streets, dazzling spectators and bringing the community together for a generous cause.
“Every year we continue to be amazed by the growth of this event and this year was no exception. We at the DRI are enormously thankful for the work of everyone involved in the Gold Coast event and their dedication to help raise awareness and funds to find a cure,” said DRIF Northeast Director Tony Childs.
A beautiful mix of engines revving, turbochargers spooling, and music from the Roslyn School of Rock and local bands, The Lazy Dogs and The Rolling Stoned filled the warm, sunny air as Lamborghinis, Porsches, Ferraris, BMWs, Mercedes-Benzes, Maseratis, and muscle cars lined the streets. Shops and restaurants such as the Cove Delicatessen (a joint that knows how to make a good NY deli-style sandwich) open their doors and welcome visitors and help provide the perfect atmosphere for a car show.
As part of the festivities, an Insignia 48-inch LED TV, two BMW bicycles, golf for four at Glen Cove Municipal Golf Course, and other goodies were awarded as part of a sweepstakes to help raise money for the Diabetes Research Institute.
Based on the growth and support from the community, expect the 2015 Gold Coast Concours/Bimmerstock event to be even bigger and more exciting thanks to the work of Joe LaPadula, Jon Holzer, and Mike Wiatrak of Martino Auto Concepts as well as the local officials. Make sure your calendar in September of 2015 is clear!
