Super-R.
The Volkswagen Golf R is one of the best hot hatches on the market. It has decades-worth of driving dynamics with all-wheel drive and a potent turbocharged engine. ABT Sportsline and their long history of tuning knows a thing or two about making a car fast, and has had some fun with the new Volkswagen Golf R VII.
The new Golf R and its 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four have received a healthy dose of power thanks to the ABT Power New Generation engine control unit complete with software. The new engine tuning unit was specifically developed for the Golf R using vigorous roller- and road testing. Overall, power is increased by 23-percent with horsepower jumping from 300 to 370 ponies and torque going from 280- to 339 lb-ft. all without altering the fuel economy. That equates to an impressive 0-62 mph time of 4.5 seconds and 165 mph top speed.
All that ABT Power comes along with some good looks as well. ABT Sportsline fitted the Volkswagen Golf R with a new body kit that includes a protruding front spoiler beneath a slim front grille and headlight covers for a more aggressive fascia. New side skirts visually lower the ride height while rear skirt and tailgate add-ons, and rear spoiler help in terms of downforce and style. The finishing touch is a new set of 9.0 x 20 ABT ER-C wheels in a five double-spoke design with a dark finish.
All of the upgrades for the MK7 Volkswagen Golf R will be available from ABT Sportsline. The body kit is currently in development while the power kit is on its way to an engine near you. Pricing has not been released.
