For 25 lucky individuals.
Twenty-five years ago, Audi ran its 5000 CS Turbo on the Talladega Speedway in Alabama to set a speed record. The 2.2-liter, five-valve, turbocharged five-cylinder engine spit out a whopping 650 horsepower and was able to log an average speed of 206.3 mph (332 km/h) around the track with a top speed of 217.48 mph (350 km/h). Fast forward a quarter-of-a-century and Roland Mayer, the former Audi engineer during that time is now paying homage to the incredible feat with a limited run of just 25 MTM S8 Talladega models.
“Typically only those with a past have a future!” was the mindset held by Roland Mayer, Managing Director of MTM GmbH with the new MTM S8 Talladega. Instead of setting out to shatter any kind of top speed records, the goal for the new Audi upgrade package was to give 25 select individuals an exclusive model to celebrate the records that were broken 25 years ago.
The new 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged TFSI V-8 engine found in the Audi S8 was given a generous boost in power by MTM. Engineers developed a new software system using the MTM M-Cantronic and V-Cantronic modules while upgrading the turbochargers, cooling system, and quad-pipe stainless steel exhaust system with dual flaps. The end result for the MTM S8 Talladega is an output of 760 horsepower at 5,950 RPM and a fat band of 697 lb-ft. of torque between 1,700 and 5,500 RPM. That’s good enough for a 0-62 mph time of 3.48 seconds and 0-124 mph sprint of 10.51 seconds. Top speed is limited to 202 mph (325 km/h) because of the road-legal tires, however that figure can easily exceed 218 mph when properly configured.
Ensuring that the MTM S8 Talladega can handle those speeds without flinching is a beefed up chassis. The factory suspension is boosted by a new in-house F-Cantronic II module that drops the ride height on the air-suspension for better handling and stability. Making contact with the ground are high-performance 295/30 R21 tires strapped to nine-spoke 21-inch MTM Bitmoto wheels.
The aerodynamics were also honed as the MTM R8 Talladega appears sleek, low, and focused on speed. The new menacing looks have been achieved with an array of carbon fiber goodies including side skirts, spoilers at the front and rear, air intakes, and more to ensure maximum stability and top-speed performance.
The new MTM S8 Talladega will be available to only 25 customers for a total of 189,708 Euros including inheritance tax. Owners of an Audi S8 also have a choice from the wide array of upgrades featured on the limited-edition model as separate, individual accessories as well.
