The world’s fastest and most powerful four-seat cabriolet.
The 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans played home to one of the most entertaining and heartbreaking races in recent history. It’s the biggest race of the year for a reason, and Brabus picked it as the venue to unveil their newest creation in partnership with Motul – the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio. The newest display of muscle and prestige is also the world’s fastest and most powerful four-seat cabriolet as well, showing that the German company is a force to be reckoned with.
Making the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio the fastest four-seat convertible in the world is its completely rebuilt twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. Based on the Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic, the 5.5-liter AMG V-8 saw its displacement grow to 5.9 liters thanks to a new forged crankshaft with longer stroke, increased cylinder bore, and forged pistons with connecting rods. Both of the cylinder heads were re-machined to match as well.
Feeding the mighty V-8 engine are two new Brabus turbochargers with bigger compressors and upgraded exhaust manifolds. Exhaust gasses are sent through larger 75 mm downpipes into special metal catalytic converters and a stainless steel sport exhaust with adjustable butterfly vales so drivers of the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio can fill their open cabin with diabolical sounds.
Next up for the hand-built engine were new carbon fiber Brabus 850 intake modules with dual air filter boxes boasting a larger displacement than the factory units, fed by an air duct. As a special touch, the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio features Brabus Gold Heat Reflection sheathing on the intake and charge air piping to keep temperatures regulated properly.
After an extensive software ECU tune and all the proper Motul lubricants, the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio generates an incredible 850 horsepower (838 bhp) at 5,400 RPM and 1,069 lb-ft. of torque from 2,500 to 4,500 RPM. For the sake of reliability, the latter has been limited to 848 lb-ft. of torque. This allows the all-wheel drive drop-top to reach 62 mph from rest in 3.5 seconds and 124 mph in just 9.4 seconds. Top speed is limited to 217 mph due to the tire limitations, making it the fastest and most powerful four-seat all-wheel drive convertible in the world.
While the power and performance might grab all the headlines with the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio, the exterior was specifically designed in a wind tunnel to accommodate. A full carbon fiber aerodynamic kit was developed to generate downforce and provide stability at triple-digit speeds, and is dressed in a high-gloss coat to match the factory paint scheme.
Up front, a new spoiler extends outwards and reduces lift while new carbon surrounds for the intakes help channel more air into the engine bay and brakes. Bare carbon fiber adorns both of the side mirrors above special badging on each of the front fenders. At the rear of the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio, a new carbon fiber diffuser and trunk spoiler combo help generate downforce and improve stability on its way to 200+ mph.
Hitting the pavement on the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio are in-house Monoblock wheels. The featured Brabus Monoblock “Platinum Edition” forged wheels can be fitted in a 9.0J x 21 front and 10.5J x 21 rear setup with 255/35 ZR21 and 295/30 ZR21 Continental, Pirelli, or Yokohama high-performance tires. New Brabus Monoblock G “Platinum Edition” forged wheels can also be fitted in 9.0J x 22 front and 10.0J x 22 rear sizes for those that really want to make a statement. Of course, the entire ride height of the drop-top can be reduced by about 15 mm at the push of a button thanks to a Brabus lowering module.
Inside, the Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio can be custom tailored to each owner’s unique tastes. New scuff plates that illuminate to match the ambient interior lighting, aluminum paddle shifters, pedals, and door pins are all available as well as a Brabus 400-km/h speedometer. The in-house upholstery shop can install a full custom-designed leather interior with alcantara and a variety of stitching designs matched by Brabus genuine carbon trim pieces.
The new Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio will come with a 62,000-mile/3-year warranty and is currently available as a complete upgrade for the Mercedes-AMG S 63 4Matic.
