[Insert Italian reliability joke here]
Six months ago a man in Qingdao, China bought a brand new Lamborghini Gallardo. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, less than two months into ownership his dream ran into a roadblock. The engine of the new Gallardo failed to start. So, he had the car towed to the local Lamborghini dealership in Qingdao to get the problem fixed. Upon arrival it was found that both the front and rear bumpers were damaged, while the dealership and towing company refused to take responsibility. To top it off, the original engine problem wasn’t fixed.
As the owner’s dream started to become a nightmare, he contacted Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini’s Chinese headquarters, the after-sales service manager for Asia-Pacific region, and even Lamborghini’s parent company, Volkswagen, but the issue was never rectified. Disappointed in the poor level of service from Lamborghini in China, he decided to use sledgehammers to fix his problem.
On World Consumer Rights Day on March 15th, 2011, the furious Lamborghini owner took his Gallardo to the local shopping center where the Italian supercar was pummeled with sledgehammers in a public display of dissatisfaction.
Keep in mind, while a Gallardo retails for approximately $230,000 in the U.S., in China they range from $529,000 to $757,000 USD. We’d be mad too!
