Think you can handle the 24 Hours of Le Mans?
One of the most legendary races is the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans. Held outside of Le Mans, France, the 24-hour endurance race pushes man and machine to the very limits of strength, focus, and stamina. Since making their debut in 1999, Audi has won a total of nine times (2000-2008, 2010), thus establishing themselves as a dominant force in the field of motorsports.
Current Audi factory driver, Allan McNish, won the race with Audi in 2008, and is now the presenter of a special 3D film by Audi showcasing their dominance at the oldest endurance race. Titled A Day in the Life of an Audi Driver, the two-and-a-half minute film features McNish detailing the challenges faced during Le Mans and the planning, teamwork, and experience employed by Audi. Each of the new R18 TDI prototypes are featured wearing numbers 1, 2, and 3 to signify the 2010 Le Mans podium sweep by Audi.
“I am very pleased with the way the advert has already been received, by motorsport fans, competitors and general public alike,” confirmed McNish, who will be taking time out from his Le Mans preparations to be the FIA’s steward at this weekend’s Monaco Formula One Grand Prix. “As with most things Audi, it is technically a first being in 3D and when I saw the full advert I was amazed on how it brought everything to life, it is pretty cool.
“When I did the presentation to Audi UK dealers, I never imagined my view on our Le Mans programme would turn into an advertisement, I was just relaying my personal experience of why Audi has been so successful. We all know about Vorsprung durch Technik but often we do not see the passion, effort and dedication that is behind it – enormous reserves of all these are required to design, build and then race a car to victory.”
The new multi-million pound Audi Le Mans campaign was developed for the British market and will premiere before kickoff at the Champions League Final between Manchester United and Barcelona at Wembley on Saturday, May 28th. The film will also be shown in theaters before the presentation of the final Harry Potter film. The new Le Mans film will be shown in 3D for the first time from Audi in new 3D cinemas.
