When “M” means “More.”
The newest addition to the M-car lineup at BMW is the 1 Series M Coupe; a 300-plus horsepower machine packed into the smallest package from the German automaker. Sounds like a blast, right? APP Automotive has injected even more excitement into the M Coupe, turning it into a mini monster.
The first aspect that APP Automotive focused on was the 340 horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine of the 1 Series M. Here, MR Car Design was given full access to tune the engine. The 1 Series M Coupe was given a larger intercooler, bigger silicone piping, ECU software, and a new exhaust that is 50 percent lighter than the stock system. The exhaust was constructed from lightweight titanium alloy and consists of a new muffler inlet pipe and larger metal catalytic converter. After the upgrades and dyno testing, the total output for the 1 Series was set at 410 horsepower.
APP Automotive focused on adding chassis and handling upgrades to make the BMW E88 M Coupe a more balanced performer. A new Movit ceramic brake system was installed, featuring six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers in a glowing orange paint. Hiding the brakes is a set of one-piece ATS superlight wheels wearing grippy Pirelli P Zero rubber. One of the more interesting aspects of the 1 Series M Coupe by APP Automotive is the Variant 3+ suspension upgrade that can be controlled by the driver through an iPhone or iPad app.
The overall color scheme for the 1 Series M was a mix of black, gray, and orange. The exterior features the tri-color striping for a dynamic look. The same mix of colors is used in the interior, where the artificial leather sport seats, dashboard trim, and gearshift boot are given a contrasting orange stitching. Facing the driver is a BMW Performance steering wheel with LED lighting at the top to notify the driver when to change gears.
The BMW E88 1 Series M Coupe by APP Automotive is currently available as a complete package. The upgrade kit is priced at € 14,000 (+/- 19,600 USD) without the brakes and € 20,000 (+/- 28,000 USD) with the brakes.
