Time for some affordable mid-size fun.
ABT Sportsline has been working its magic with the Volkswagen Passat since 1973. That’s 46 years of making the mid-size model from Volkswagen even more enjoyable. Their latest arsenal of upgrades is just as impressive as their long history with the four-door, as seven different engine tunes are available along with new body work, suspension goodies, and more.
First, the gasoline engines get a pretty significant boost thanks to the ABT Power “New Generation” kits, starting with the 1.4-liter TSI. The turbocharged four-cylinder sees its stock 150 horsepower output jump to 180. The slightly larger 1.8 TSI goes from 180- to 210 horses with the kit. The two versions of the 2.0 TSI engine with 220- and 280 horsepower from the factory get boosted to 290- and 336 horsepower, respectively.
On the oil-burning side of things, the entire range of 2.0-liter TDI four-cylinders get a healthy dose of power as well. The factory 150-, 190-, and 240 horsepower outputs all grow to 170, 215, and 270 horsepower, respectively, along with a healthy boost in torque.
While the array of engine tunes is vast, the rest of the Volkswagen Passat can be injected with fun from the chassis, out thanks to ABT Sportsline. New suspension springs reduce the ride height by 35 mm up front and 30 mm at the rear for a better center of gravity while anti-roll bars tighten up handling in the corners.
From there, new ABT sport wheels can be added with Continental high-performance tires for added grip. 18-, 19-, 20-, and 21-inch ABT CR, DR, ER-C, FR, and DR alloy wheels can all be fitted for a more unique look and bigger footprint.
Visually, the Volkswagen Passat can get a bit more aggressive with the new ABT Sportsline add-ons. A new front grille and skirt creates a wider, lower fascia while new mirror covers and side skirts decorate the profile. At the rear, a new spoiler generates downforce while a new skirt integrates the quad-pipe rear muffler for a muscular look.
The new ABT Sportsline range of upgrades for the Volkswagen Passat are currently available as a complete package or individual accessories, and ensures that the German company will be working with the mid-size car for years to come.
