AC Schnitzer’s bird of prey.
During the 2011 Sport Auto H&R Tuner Grand Prix at the Hockenheim Circuit, the new AC Schnitzer Mini Eagle set a lap time of just 1:13.341, besting its class rivals. The Eagle concept vehicle was only beaten by higher powered sports cars such as the KTM X-Bow, Caterham, and Mercedes-Benz AMG.
The new AC Schnitzer Mini Eagle is a concept vehicle based on the John Cooper Works Mini. The entire car has been heavily modified with the goal of achieving “Efficient Performance”. The 1.6-liter turbocharged four cylinder has been upgraded with a new turbocharger, stainless steel exhaust system with racing catalytic converter, and Motronic program to push output to 260 horsepower at 5,000 RPM and 251 lb-ft. of torque at 2,950 RPM. To handle the added power and punishment from the racetrack, the clutch was upgraded, a differential was installed, and shorter gear ratios were added. This helps the AC Schnitzer Eagle reach 62 mph in only 5.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 155 mph.
The body and interior have also been optimized for weight and aerodynamics. Carbon fiber replaces much of the stock body panels to shed 176 lbs. of overall weight. Downforce is created by a carbon fiber diffuser and rear spoiler. Inside is a fill roll cage, carbon racing bucket seats with “Eagle” logos, a new sports steering wheel, short shift gear knob, aluminum pedals, and new velour floor mats with “Eagle” logos.
In the handling department, AC Schnitzer has installed new suspension upgrades along with a new set of lightweight wheels. The Mini Eagle comes equipped with a full height adjustable racing suspension and special anti-roll bars to reduce body roll. New one-piece AC Schnitzer BiColor wheels are fitted and measure 7.5J x 18 at all four corners and wear 255/35 ZR18 tires.
The AC Schnitzer Mini Eagle was the fastest Mini at the Hockenheim Circuit in the 2011 Sport Auto H&R Tuner GP, beating out the Mini John Cooper Works Challenge car, Schäfer Minis, and others. The 1:13.341 lap time positioned the Mini just behind sports cars such as the Ferrari California, Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series, and Porsche 911 Carrera S. The AC Schnitzer Mini Eagle is a concept car valued at € 62,000 (+/- 87,900 USD), and is not for sale.
