This diesel probably meets emissions standards…
While the whole “dieselgate” scandal has been overshadowing basically everything that Volkswagen is involved with including their vast umbrella of automakers, Audi has decided to celebrate one of the brands successes – on the racetrack. The new Audi A5 DTM special-edition model is limited to just 50 units and sports a torquey diesel engine and all sorts of motorsport styling cues.
DTM styling cues can be seen all over the two-door coupe wearing a vibrant Misano Red paint. Special ‘DTM’, ‘quattro’, and ‘Audi Sport’ logos and emblems are featured throughout the sports car on the door sills, front lid, and rear window. The Audi A5 DTM also wears contrasting black highlights on the new body work including a black and grey stripe running along the lower doors with matching side skirts.
Up front sits a new bumper with larger air intakes and rhombus-pattern grilles. The rear features a clean design with a subtle black trunk spoiler lip and clean lower valence with single exhaust outlet. Four new Audi Sport five twin-spoke cast aluminum wheels have the job of putting the power down and measure 9.0J x 20 with 265/30 R20 tires.
Under the Misano Red hood of the Audi A5 DTM sits a 3.0 TDI V-6 engine that likely complies with all of the emissions testing after the dieselgate controversy. The oil-burner creates a healthy 245 horsepower and 428 lb-ft. of torque. That’s mated to a seven-speed S tronic gearbox and quattro permanent all-wheel drive. It’s also good enough to send the coupe to 62 mph from rest in 5.9 seconds and to an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph. Not exactly DTM-racer figures, but they’re not boring either.
Inside the Audi A5 DTM sits a range of special motorsport goodies from the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters series. When either door opens, a light shines a DTM logo on the ground below to welcome driver and passengers. New contoured bucket seats taken from the RS 5 feature Misano Red backrest covers that match the door inlays, side trims, and center console. Red stitching adorns the seats and leather and alcantara flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel. Tinted rear windows and stainless steel pedals complete the transformation.
Only 50 examples of the Audi A5 DTM model will be available in Germany. The third DTM-edition model from Audi will be priced at 74,540 Euros.
