The Carbon Fiber Snolo Sled-X is a High-Speed Snow Rocket

Snolo Sled-X

High-performance alpine sledding.

When you think of extreme snow sports, snowboarding, skiing, and even snowmobiling usually comes to mind. Not sledding. But Snolo Sleds is looking to change that with their new Sled-X – the high-performance, carbon fiber alpine sled.

The new Snolo Sled-X was teased earlier in the year and took home the Silver Medal in the Concept/Experimental section of the Best Awards in October, 2012. Now, it’s finally here and ready to speed down the snowy slopes in style.

Three parts make up the Sled-X and are primarily made from carbon fiber. The basis of the sled is the carbon fiber mono shell that has a foam padded seat and back rest that holds the rider in a laid-back position for better maneuverability and control, while a lanyard connects the rider and sled for safety. The back rest can be flipped down and the lap belt turns into shoulder straps so that the sled can be easily carried as a backpack. A carbon fiber front ski resembles the shape of a snowboard and utilizes adjustable foot pegs to control the direction of the sled.

The design and shape of the Sled-X creates the feeling that the rider is in a race car and has been tested, developed, and thoroughly researched for the past six years. Early testing has revealed that the sled is capable of reaching speeds up to 65 km/h (40 mph) and still has the ability to stop, turn, and maneuver like a traditional snowboard.

The new Snolo Sled-X can be ordered from the New Zealand company for $3,000. The sled can be used on soft, powdery snow or dense, packed snow for a high-speed thrill.
