The Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R Goes Back to its Classic Skin

It can be beautiful when a snake sheds its skin.

In the late-‘90s and early-‘00s, the Dodge Viper made quite a name for itself in the world of motorsports by securing an overall victory at the 2000 Rolex 24 at Daytona, a class win at the 2000 24 Hours of Le Mans, and took the championship wins at the 1999 and 2000 American Le Mans Series. The red and white livery of the Vipers were instantly recognizable, fierce, and something to watch out for in the rear-view mirror on the track.

Their success was undeniable, and with the new fifth-generation Vipers and their SRT GTS-R racing siblings being so popular and competitive, the old-school skin is making a comeback. The classic ‘Viper Red’ and ‘Race White’ will return to the SRT Motorsports No. 91 and No. 93 Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R cars for the remainder of the 2013 IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, starting next week.

“We are honoring the racing history of the Dodge Viper by returning to its classic colors as we are in the midst of celebrating the Dodge brand’s 100th anniversary and 100 years of American performance,” said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of SRT Motorsports and Senior Vice President of Product Design for Chrysler Group LLC. “The new livery not only brings back this classic look but also enables us to continue to connect our Viper racing program to its spirited racing heritage.”

The new livery will consist of a base ‘Viper Red’ coat with two powerful, ‘Race White’ stripes starting at the front bumper and running across the hood and roof to the bottom of the rear bumper. Viper, MOPAR, Dodge, SRT, and other logos/designations will also be shown in the white color. To distinguish each car, a white circle with each car’s number will be positioned on each door and above the passenger-side fender on the hood while a large number sits longitudinally on the roof. Each car will also sport a special 100th Anniversary logo for the Dodge brand.

Both the SRT Motorsports No. 91 and No. 93 Dodge Viper SRT GTS-R cars will make their debut at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen International Circuit on June 27th to 29th. Their tires will first touch the pavement for practice on June 27th and look to take the checkered flag at the race on Sunday, June 29th, starting at 11:15 am. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen will be the third endurance race in the 2014 IMSA TUDOR season and be part of the North American Endurance Cup (NAEC).

Be sure to clear your schedule on Sunday for some sportscar racing with new skin!
