Getting behind the wheel of a vehicle is never going to be 100-percent safe. Racing and motorsports is a dangerous game that asks drivers and others involved to push man and machine to the limit. Safety is always the main focus, but never perfect and unfortunately driving has claimed another life. During a private driver training at Queensland Raceway in Australia, 26-year-old Sean Edwards passed away after an accident. Edwards was in the passenger seat as an instructor of a 911 Cup car when it hit a tire wall and burst into flames. The driver is currently in critical condition, after it took firefighters three hours to remove him from the car.

Son of Formula One driver, Guy Edwards, Sean Edwards was an accomplished British driver who was loved by his peers and fans. In 2006, he was crowned champion in the FIA GT3 European Championship, and has raced in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup since 2008, and Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland since 2010. Edwards was one of the most popular and successful drivers in both racing series.

“Our thoughts are with his family and we want to express our deepest condolences to his relatives,” said Hartmut Kristen, Head of Motorsport at Porsche.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Edwards.
