Who needs an SUV when you have a V-10 powered wagon?
Although the E60/61 BMW M5 has been replaced with a more fuel efficient model with increased power, it is still seen as one of the best M5s made by BMW. The 5.0-liter V-10 could be paired with a six-speed manual or seven-speed SMG and offered superb handling and performance. The wagon variant, aka the BMW E61, gave owners that same performance with room for five and a large cargo area. edo competition has taken the family performance wagon and unleashed it’s dark side.
The Dark Edition M5 gets its name from the sinister appearance from edo competition. At the front and rear of the black M5 wagon are modified bumpers that improve aerodynamics and create a more aggressive appearance. Protruding from the rear bumper is an upgraded exhaust system with four chrome tips. The rear is then finished off with a new spoiler that helps produce downforce at higher speeds. To match the black paint and sinister attitude, edo competition has fitted new 20-inch light alloy wheels with black centers and 255/35 R20 front and 285/30 R20 rear Dunlop tires.
The award-winning BMW 5.0-liter V-10 sitting under the hood is even more potent thanks to new engine modifications. A new ECU tune, high-performance air filters, catalytic converters, and full exhaust system push output from the stock 500 horsepower and 384 lb-ft. to 555 horsepower and 413 lb-ft. of torque. Acceleration from 0-62 mph takes just 4.2 seconds for the family hauler; 0.5 seconds faster than the stock model. Acceleration from 62 to 124 mph also drops by five seconds for the Black Edition as the car takes under 10 seconds to complete the sprint. The top speed limiter has also been removed and allows the M5 wagon to reach a speed of 190 mph.
edo competition has also taken steps to upgrade the interior for customers. The five-seat wagon gains a host of carbon fiber and leather appointments. The increased top speed also necessitated an upgraded 360 km/h speedometer, so edo competition fitted new white dials with backlit logos.
The edo competition Black Edition M5 wagon is currently available from the German tuner. Pricing has not been released.
