A top-of-the-line British grand-tourer undergoes a complete transformation by zee Germans.
In business, the customer is always right. So when a Russian customer became bored with his five-year-old Aston Martin DB9 and wanted to transform it into a DBS, Edo Competition was ready to create the car he desired. The transformation took place over six months and involved engine tuning, body and interior refinements, and brake and suspension upgrades.
In order for the DB9 to be transformed into a DBS it had to have the same sporty appearance. To do this, Edo Competition installed new aerodynamic parts found only on the DBS such as the carbon fiber front skirt and rear diffuser. Steel body panels were also replaced with carbon fiber panels, and the wheel arches were widened to give the DB9 the muscular look of the DBS. The DB9 was also fitted with new DBS wheels to complete the appearance transformation.
While the DB9 already features a classy interior, it still required refinements in order to create a DBS cabin. The headliner, dashboard, center console, door panels, and seats were all finished with alcantara/leather and carbon fiber with metal accents according to the customer. To further refine the interior, Edo Competition installed a new high-end audio system producing a clear and full-bodied sound.
One of the most important aspects of the conversion was the engine tuning. A new stainless steel exhaust system, retuned engine electronics, and high-flow air filters brought the power output from 470 hp to a mighty 550 hp. This allowed a 0-62 mph sprint of just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 199 mph – 16 mph faster than the stock DB9. The high-performance exhaust system features a butterfly valve system that can be adjusted via remote to churn out a ferocious V-12 melody or keep the stock exhaust note.
To complete the DBS makeover, Edo Competition fitted new suspension and braking systems for a more dynamic driving experience. Edo Competition’s high-performance suspension system was installed and allows the ride height, rebound damping, and low- and high-speed compression to be adjusted. The new braking system utilizes stainless steel braided brake lines with six-piston front and four-piston rear monoblock brake calipers.
After a six-month build process the customer’s Aston Martin DB9 was successfully turned into a DBS. The cost of the project was unavailable, but based on our industry knowledge here at MotoringExposure, it cost a pretty penny – or in this case a pretty ruble.
