So you have made your Christmas gift list and noticed that your favorite Millionaire Tycoon or Multi-Platinum Pop Star has become harder and harder to shop for. What do you give to the guy or gal who traverses Monaco regularly and has a Villa in Spain but, just happens to be a gearhead? They’ve had their share of ‘Benzes. They tooled around in Bimmers as they worked their way up. A Prancing Horse or Running Bull doesn’t excite them. Even a McLaren P1 passes by them without even a second glance. Don’t even think about an Aston or Maserati, that’s like the eternal fruitcake to them. What now? Give them something that will turn heads at track days. Don’t give them the latest version of the status quo, give them something different…..real different.
We’ve gone to exhaustive measures to compile a list of the most obscure and rare supercars on the planet. They range from one-off prototypes, to small volume production models. Here are gift ideas sure to get you your own island next year.
BECK LM 800
The Swiss-built Beck LM 800 was designed to be extremely lightweight at 1,984 lbs. and incredibly aerodynamic. Powering the car is a 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 with 650 horsepower. 3-seconds to 60 (estimated). There’s also a Beck LM 820 Luxury Version. Good luck finding one.
ORCA C113
The Swiss-made Orca C113 was claimed to have a top speed of 224 mph, powered by a twin-turbocharged Audi 4.2-liter V-8 engine spitting out 641bhp and 664lb-ft. of torque. Suspension on the C113 is comprised of double wishbones at the front and rear with coil springs and aluminum alloy struts. All suspension parts are made of CNC-machined aluminum and are covered with a layer of lightweight carbon fiber. Carbon composite brakes that utilize ventilated and cross-drilled rotors sit at all four corners and are grabbed by eight-piston calipers for incredible stopping power.
W3 TRIPOSTO
The W3 Triposto is a striking supercar developed by a father and son team consisting of Clyde and Hugh Kwok, an engineering professor and professional racing driver, respectively. The Canadian-based company uses a Porsche 911 for the majority of drivetrain components. Don’t worry, your recipient probably already has one lying around with a 3.6-liter flat-six engine. The W3 Triposto creates 325 horsepower at 6,100 RPM and 290 lb-ft. of torque at 4,800 RPM, helping the car reach a top speed of about 185 mph. The W3 Triposto features a three-seat layout with the driver in a central position and a passenger seat on either side, inside of its rounded and unique design.
GILLETTE VERTIGO
I know you thought the Vertigo went out of existence. However, in 2010 the company that Tony Gillette founded was revived. The new car is called the Gillette Vertigo Spirit 5. No. it doesn’t run with Veyrons or take corners like a 911, but it wins the neck-snapping, head-turning wars hands down.
The Dassault Falcon or Superyacht A would nicely compliment any of these fine rides and garner you the title of greatest gearhead gift-giver in the world.
