Another toasted rotary…
Our cars can be a source of incredible pride as automotive enthusiasts, especially when so much time, money, and effort are put into restoring or rebuilding one. Arvin, an avid Mazda RX-7 enthusiast had purchased a 1993 model then proceeded to completely tear apart the car and rebuild it piece by piece with upgraded equipment to create his perfect sports car.
After a great deal of work, the Mazda RX-7 was finally completed and he caught up with Ronnie Corado of StanceWorks.com to do a photo shoot featuring his custom-tailored sports car. The car was something to be proud of; it had a single-turbocharger setup that was capable of 505 horsepower on 22 lbs. of boost pressure, had the engine rebuilt, installed custom body work and paint, and fitted a new suspension and Rota wheels.
Things seemed to be going great at the photo shoot. What enthusiast wouldn’t be happy to have their car featured on a website? In the middle of a burnout however, the harness ended up melting and starting on fire. The car was immediately shut off and the hood was opened, only to find the start of an RX-7 fire of epic proportions. The team tried to put out the fire, but had to call the fire department to put out the flames. The RX-7 fire turned out to be the photo shoot from hell for Arvin and the car was a total loss.
This isn’t the traditional Friday Fail that we’re used to over here at MotoringExposure. This time we genuinely feel bad for Arvin and his totally rebuilt 1993 Mazda RX-7. To have something that you’ve worked so hard to build go up in flames in such fashion is hard to see, no matter what it is. The good news? He’s hoping to have the car running soon, and has an RX-7 FC that he is also working on. Best of luck, Arvin!
