Supercharged and out of control!
The new C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a pure American supercar that isn’t afraid to lay down the rubber. Its supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine spits out 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft. of torque and it’s not always easy to handle, as this new driver demonstrated.
Less than 24 hours after getting the keys, this driver lost control while testing out launch control and drive into a tree.
According to the uploader’s comments on Car Throttle, the Corvette Z06 had the Z07 package with the seven-speed manual. The driver was testing launch control, which limits torque in first gear. Upon reaching second, all of the torque was unleashed at open throttle and the vehicle’s electronic aids didn’t compensate. The unexpected rush of power was too much for the driver to control, and it went right into a tree.
Thankfully, the driver wasn’t injured and the vehicle is completely repairable. The airbag didn’t deploy and the frame snapped off at the points that it was designed to keep the passengers safe. The total cost will exceed $20,000, but the car will be repaired.
Even though the driver had experience in high-performance Corvettes, it always pays to be prepared and learn a new vehicle’s systems prior to pushing it to the limit.
