Triple-turbo diesel tuning!
The BMW M550d is the first-ever diesel model to wear the prestigious “M” badge in the brand’s history. The designation is not without merit either; the triple-turbo 3.0-liter inline six cranks out the beef and its M sport suspension handles corners with ease. G-Power has been quietly working in the shadows to create the D-Tronik 5 V1 control module that unleashes even more power to make that M badge shine proudly.
The new G-Power D-Tronik 5 V1 control module was designed to deliver maximum performance without sacrificing reliability or longevity of the engine. The system is only activated once the optimum engine temperature is reached and will automatically disengage once maximum oil temperate is reached. The system only engages when maximum power is needed as well. During normal, partial-throttle daily driving, the system is disengaged as well and utilizes the factory ECU.
But when that power is called upon the G-Power D-Tronik 5 V1 makes the BMW M550d into a star. The triple-turbocharged, diesel 3.0-liter inline-six sports an impressive 381 horsepower and 545 lb-ft. of torque in stock form. With the new control module, an additional 51 horsepower and 81 lb-ft. is created for a total of 435 horsepower at 4,000 RPM and 627 lb-ft. of torque at 2,500 RPM. That allows for a 0-62 mph sprint of only 4.5 seconds and a top speed over 167 mph. If desired, the G-Power team can install the V-Max software to push the top speed back to a theoretical 186 mph.
The job of handling all the extra power and torque falls on the lightweight G-Power Hurricane RR forged wheels. The five double-spoke wheels are made from forged aerospace-grade aluminum alloy and reduce the rotating mass at the wheel hub for better overall performance compared to the factory wheels. G-Power installed the new rollers in a staggered 9.0J x 21 front and 10.5J x 21 rear setup with 255/30 ZR21 and 295/25 ZR21 tires, respectively.
The new upgrades for the triple-turbo BMW M550d are currently available from G-Power. The D-Tronik 5 V1 control module is available for 2,318.32 Euros while the V-Max can be purchased for 1,000 Euros, separately or for 668 Euros along with the control module. The G-Power Hurricane RR wheel and tire setup is priced at 7,649.58 Euros.
