The Porsche Panamera doesn’t exactly draw a uniformly positive opinion when it comes to its design and the fact that it has four doors. It does, however, receive quite a bit of praise for its driving dynamics, especially in Turbo form. Gemballa has taken the Porsche Panamera Turbo to record-setting levels with the GTP 700 upgrade that reached 210.52 mph (338.8 km/h) on Nardo to set a new world record. Now, they’re doing the same things with a more powerful version – the GTP 720 (that has an electronically-limited top speed of 340 km/h).
The new Gemballa GTP 720 underwent testing at a closed-off airport and the Sachsenring circuit in Germany to topple some records, initiated by a well-known and respected automotive publication.
At the airport, the Gemballa GTP 720 was able to accelerate to 62 mph from rest in just 3.2 seconds to set a new world record for cars in its weight category of 2.3-tons. Reaching 124 mph took only 9.7 seconds, and 186 mph took 33.6 seconds, almost cutting the factory times in half. At the Sachsenring, the Gemballa GTP 720 made it around the track in just 1:37.08 minutes, again setting a new record for its weight class.
“This exceptional performance is not only due to the car’s horse power but also to its torque, raised by 255 Nm and available over a wide range of revs,“ said CEO Andreas Schwarz.
All of the upgrades from the wheels to the engine and aerodynamics were designed in-house by Gemballa and thoroughly tested. The German tuning company even goes as far as to use an EEC-recognized method for determining power outputs instead of the DIN method, giving each customer the performance data.
The full Gemballa GTP 720 upgrade package is currently available for customers with the Porsche Panamera Turbo.
