Carbon fiber curves.
The new 991-generation Porsche 911 Cabriolet has just started to hit the streets and just in time for the warm weather. With spring finally starting to hit, the team at Gemballa has created the new Gemballa GT aerodynamic and technology package for the drop-top 911 that boosts power and gives the sports car a completely new look that commands presence on the road.
The entire look of the 911 Cabriolet has been completely transformed thanks to a full carbon fiber body kit that fits in-line with all of the factory mounting points (except Gurney lip spoiler). The kit changes the face of the sports car with a new front bumper and spoiler lip combo that features three large air intakes and slits that sit at each side for a dynamic look. A pair of wide side skirts runs into the rear fenders and to the rear where a new skirt with integrated diffuser and exhaust outlets sit. A carbon fiber strip connects each of the taillights and emphasizes width and sits below a new gurney spoiler.
Protruding from the rear and grabbing attention is a new exhaust system that brings back memories of the legendary Gemballa Avalanche from the 1980s. The dual-triple exhaust system utilizes a throttle activated sound control to alter the volume of the 3.8-liter flat-six depending on the position of the throttle pedal. The exhaust also optimizes the backpressure properties and allows for an additional 10 horsepower to be produced, resulting in a total output of 405 horsepower at 7,400 RPM and 325 lb-ft. of torque at 5,600 RPM. This enables the Porsche 911 Cabriolet to accelerate to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds from rest (4.5 s w/PDK), go from 50-75 mph in 6.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 187 mph (186 mph w/PDK).
The final aspect of the exterior transformation from Gemballa includes a few chassis modifications that add a touch of athleticism for the 911 Cabriolet. A new set of sport springs that work along with PASM dampers and reduce the ride height by 20 mm for an optimum center of gravity. The factory 20-inch wheels were replaced with new Gemballa 21-inch GForged one-piece wheels in a “black magic”, “gunmetal” or optional “diamond cut” finish. The wheels weigh less than the factory units and wear 245/30ZR21 front and 305/25ZR21 rear Michelin performance tires. Behind those wheels sit a new high performance braking system developed in cooperation with Brembo for reduced fade and greater stopping power.
Inside, customers have a full range of options to customize almost every aspect of the cockpit, so that when that top is down, you’re showing off even more. The Gemballa team can outfit the entire interior with handcrafted quality using leather hides, alcantara, and other materials. Other aspects such as carbon fiber, wood, and aluminum can be installed to create a unique interior design. For those audiophiles out there, Gemballa will install their latest media system if the exhaust note doesn’t tickle your fancy.
The Gemballa GT aerodynamic and technology package for the 991 Porsche 911 Cabriolet is currently available as an entire package or as separate upgrades. The aerodynamic package starts at € 19,860 incl. VAT with painting and fitting, the wheel and tire combo starts at € 8,948 incl. VAT and varies depending on finishes.
