Well, so much for that.
Image that you had just spent $42,000 on a new 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 only to have it explode right before your eyes. Well, that’s just what happened to Gabriel Lopes on February 6th while driving on the Interstate 205 between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington.
Lopes had just bought the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 for $42,000 as a certified pre-owned model seven days prior with only 13,000 miles on the odometer.
After gradually losing power and having difficulty changing gears, the C300 shut off when Lopes pulled onto the shoulder of Interstate 205. Emergency personnel were called and the vehicle shut itself off as Lopes and a friend walked away.
As you would expect, Lopes freaked out while watching his new car smoke then begin to burn on the side of the road. After several minutes had passed and the fire department was on the scene of the burning Mercedes-Benz, it exploded.
Although there had been one recall for a power steering issue and another for an improperly secured fuel delivery module on the C300, the VIN for Lopes’ C300 was not in the recall database.
Mercedes-Benz is currently investigating the incident and Lopes is waiting to hear if the automaker will repay him.
Hopefully, the situation can be worked out and Lopes can get himself in a Mercedes-Benz that won’t self-destruct.
