…And it races a Challenger SRT Hellcat!
The GMC Yukon isn’t exactly in the same league as high-performance, luxury SUVs from Europe. It’s big, truck-based, and built to carry stuff around with ease, the American way. But Hennessey Performance is looking to change that and turn a few heads with their HPE650 Supercharged upgrade package for the GMC Yukon and its 6.2-liter V-8 engine.
All the big, heavy SUV needs is a big dose of power to transform it into a luxury brick that can do some serious hauling of ass. Hennessey Performance engineers installed a new 2.9-liter supercharger system that sits atop the 6.2-liter V-8 and added on high-flow cylinder heads, a custom HPE camshaft, and a high-flow intercooler system to regulate temperatures. After all the necessary gaskets, fluids, hardware, and more was installed, an HPE Engine Management Calibration was performed to ensure that everything works properly.
After dyno and road testing to ensure reliability and quality, the engine pumps out a whopping 665 bhp at 5,500 RPM and 658 lb-ft. of torque at 4,200 RPM. That’s good enough to send the heavyweight to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds!
Of course, after a few drag strip runs, the Hennessey Performance team had to line it up against the big, bad Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat to see just where it stood. While the HPE650 Yukon got off to a better start, it was just no match for the Hellcat. However, it did hold its own pretty well, especially considering that it carries a curb weight that exceeds 5,300 pounds.
