A muscle car should get that testosterone pumping and strike fear into those that it passes by. While many American sports cars have that powerful character today, only a select few are as diabolical and horrifically awesome as the new Hennessey Performance HPE800 Shelby GT350/GT350R Mustang.
The 5.2-liter Voodoo V-8 engine that comes standard in the Shelby GT350/GT350R Mustang models is a naturally-aspirated wonder of motorsport-inspired power. But with the Hennessey HPE800 upgrade, it gets even better thanks to a whole lot of goodies.
It all starts with the new 2.9-liter supercharger system with carbon fiber high-flow air induction system that sends even more air into each of the cylinders. New forged aluminum pistons, forged steel connecting rods, and an 11.0:1 compression ratio are made to handle the extra boost pressure. A fully upgraded fuel system including pump and injectors sends more stuff to burn into the engine while a full HPE software tune makes it all work together.
After all the upgrades have been installed and the HPE800 Shelby GT350 has been put through dyno and road testing, it’s ready to rip through some tires. A total of 808 bhp at 7,800 PRM and 657 lb-ft. of torque at 4,600 RPM is within a foot’s reach for the driver. All that muscle sends the HPE800 Shelby GT350 Mustang to 60 mph from rest in just 3.3 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at 133 mph.
