Pumping up a classic.
HPerformance and HPA Motorsports are two companies that are almost on opposite ends of the globe. HPerformance calls Osterburken, Germany their home while HPA Motorsports is located all the way in Langley, Canada. They may be separated by thousands of miles, however they’ve collaborated on the MK. IV Volkswagen R32 for a boosted hot hatch with an intoxicating sound.
The collaboration started off with the 3.2-liter VR6 engine getting all sorts of good stuff. HPA Motorsports installed their EFR550 turbo kit with stronger pistons, connecting rods, and lower compression ratio. A water-cooled intake manifold and electronically-adjustable boost controller allows for the already crazy 550 horsepower, 538 lb-ft. output to be pushed even further. That’s paired up with HPerformance software and a 90 mm exhaust system with valve-controlled pipes to make the VR6 growl.
And that was only part of the story. The Volkswagen R32 was given a pair of flared front fenders to house the new set of HRE FF01 wheels in an 8.5 x 19 setup with satin black finish and corresponding sports tires. Further improving grip is a newly-installed KW Variant 2 coilover setup with H&R stabilizers on both axles.
The rest of the modifications, including the black-painted exterior components, vinyl wrapping, and other upgrades are completely custom. The total price for the conversion is approximately 35,000 euros.
