We dare you to try to outrun the police in Italy.

Since 2004, the Police in Italy have been using a few Lamborghini Gallardos for high-speed traffic duty and as rapid-response medical emergency vehicles. In 2008, those first-generation Gallardo’s were replaced with second-generation models, and now the police force has been given a new Huracán LP 610-4 by Lamborghini.

‘‘We have a strong and fitting relationship with the Italian State Police. The new Lamborghini Huracán stands for Italian super sports car excellence and we are proud to provide it to the Italian State Police to carry out the specialist tasks these police cars undertake.’’ said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

At the ‘‘Museo delle Auto Storiche della Polizia di Stato” in Rome, the Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 was presented to Prefect Alessandro Pansa, Head of the Italian State Police.

‘‘Today is an important day, since two Italian excellences meet and strengthen their relationship which started in 2004 with the handing over of the Lamborghini Gallardo to the Italian State Police,” said Pansa. “In the last ten years, the Italian State Police used the car for prevention purposes and in order to enhance street security.’’

The Lamborghini Gallardos that were previously in use by the Italian police were able to pile up the mileage without requiring anything other than standard maintenance. The first-gen models accumulated 87,000 miles from 2005 to 2008 while the second-generation models 68,000 miles between 2009 and 2014.

The new Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 was given the classic “blu Polizia” blue and white livery in a design that reflects the shape and lines of the supercar. The new emergency-use model also sports a specially-designed light bar on the roof. The blue and white LED light bar was designed with a very thin profile and is aerodynamically-optimized to allow for higher top speeds to be reached. White LED lights also make an appearance on the front, sides, and rear of the aluminum body shell and work with four sirens positioned in the front and rear to alert drivers.

A host of new technology is featured in the new Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4. A video system sits front-and-center next to the rear-view mirror while its computer and recording equipment is positioned behind the seats. The “Proof Video Data” system beams images back to the station in real-time using radio data transmission and can be used to automatically retrieve license plate numbers. The “Proof Video Data” system also works with the GPS system to coordinate the speed and direction of the police car and accurately determine the speed of the vehicle being pursued.

Good ol’ fashioned police tech will still be used in the Huracán. The cabin is outfitted with a gun holster, radio equipment, and the “Paletta” stop sign. With the Huracán also doing duty as an emergency medical vehicle, the supercar was outfitted with a defibrillator and a special refrigeration system in the front trunk for transporting donor organs.

The all-wheel drive, 610-horsepower Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 will start its first shift of police duty at the end of this year, so check your speeds on Italian roadways.
