The XKR sharpens its claws.
The XKR is the ultimate Jaguar coupe, combining classic beauty with stunning power. Using the latest generation supercharged 5.0-liter V-8, the XKR is one of Jaguars most powerful cats. New technology such as spray-guided direct injection (SGDI) and dual independent variable cam timing (DIVCT) coupled with a wailing twin vortex supercharger help to create 510 horsepower from 6,000 – 6,500 RPM, and increase efficiency. This power sends the XKR to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 155 mph. A six-speed automatic with steering wheel mounted paddleshifters, Active Differential Control, and Adaptive Dynamics set the XKR apart from its naturally aspirated brethren. Two new packages are now offered to further give the XKR a distinguished position in the Jaguar family, the Speed Pack and the Black Pack.
The Speed Pack can be added as an option on the XKR, and features a number of aesthetic and performance upgrades. The package removes the 155 mph top speed and limits the XKR to 174 mph. The higher top speed is achieved by recalibrating the engine management system and transmission. At such high speeds additional components had to be added to ensure stability. At the front a new aerodynamic splitter has been fitted, while a larger spoiler sits at the rear for reduced lift. The Active Differential Control has also been revised to reduce steering sensitivity at high speeds for better control.
Seven new colors will be available only to the Speed Package to showcase the performance of the car: Ultimate Black, Polaris White, Salsa Red, Liquid Silver, Lunar Grey, Kyanite Blue and Spectrum Blue. Chrome finishes have also been added to the window surrounds, mesh grilles, side Power Vents, and trunk finisher, while the side sills and rear diffuser are painted in body color. New red brake calipers with the Jaguar ‘R’ logo are standard, and shine through the newly fitted 20-inch Kasuga wheels.
For an even bolder statement, Jaguar customers can opt for the Black Pack on the new XKR. Like the Speed Pack, the Black Pack also adds the recalibrated engine management system and transmission to achieve the screaming 174 mph top speed. Three exclusive colors are available with the Black Pack: Ultimate Black, Polaris White, and Salsa Red. For a menacing appearance, a gloss black finish is applied to the window surrounds, front grilles, and side Power Vents. Body color is applied to the front and rear spoilers, and trunk finisher. As an option an ‘XKR’ side body graphic that runs along the door sills is available, and gives the car an athletic appearance. Black Kalimnos alloy wheels are standard, hiding the optional red brake calipers.
The Black Pack also includes a host of interior features. Three finishes and veneers for the door trim and fascia in Dark Oak, Dark Mesh Aluminum, or Piano Black are available. All seats feature Charcoal leather hide trim and can be personalized with a large palette of color stitching and grain.
Both the Speed Pack and Black Pack for the XKR will be debuted at the 2010 Geneva International Motor Show. The Speed Pack will be available for £3,500 (+/- 5,300 USD), while the Black Pack will cost £4,000 (+/- 6,000 USD).
