Lamborghini at 50: Reviewing The Party

I certainly hope that when I turn 50, I can have a great a celebration like Lamborghini did in 2013. Celebrating the half-century mark is a big deal and ideas for how to do it properly never seem to come easy. Lamborghini must have taken all of 2013 to put this one together. I plead with the party planners at Lamborghini Automobili S.p.A. to please assist me with my celebration.

We were still reeling from the introduction of the awesome Filippo Perini-designed Aventador. After that, they teased us by slicing the top and giving us the gorgeous Aventador Spyder. The party moved to Amelia Island where the birthday party was highlighted with said Spyder alongside an original Miura – “bellissima!”

Lamborghini Egoista

The team continued to leave party favors everywhere. The Lamborghini Veneno exploded onto Geneva with its Flash Gordon looks. The Aventador LP 720-4 50° Anniversario splashed in Shanghai to commemorate the Birthday celebration. Walter de Silva forced jaws to drop with his radical (what a nice word, Mr. Cribbs) Egoista – a car which was the parent company’s (Audi) birthday gift. All of which were presented by the svelte CEO and gracious party host, Stephen Winkleman. Any good party allows you to take away party favors and this one was no exception. We were allowed a glimpse into the Lamborghini Museum thanks to Google Maps.

Huracan

In the last few steps of 2013 it would seem as if the party would dwindle – not so. They cranked up the music in Sant’Agata Bolognese once again and turned the lights up on the floor as the most radical (or “brave”) incarnation, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, that would be a thumping swan song. Just as we embark on the last days of the revelry, the firm brings us the Huracan LP 610-4, a sleek and muscular replacement for the abstract beauty of the former baby Lambo. It is pretty car with shades of Aventador. To go with all that beauty is a 5.2-liter V-10 coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch ‘box; 610 horsepower and 413 lb-ft. of torque are the results of this engine’s spinning. Expect the drag race results with GT3’s, 458’s and several others to come quickly and often.

You can’t beat Lamborghini at having a party – and an after-party. In one year, they have given us more to look at that any other builder in Supercar Valley. We expect the birthday party for Lamborghini to end while the baby shower for the newborn baby bull to be in full swing for 2014. If Lamborghini at 50 was this fabulous, Cribbs at 50 would simply be magnificent. Lamborghini party planners, my 50th birthday is all yours. Just for the record, you have plenty of time.
