The Lamborghini Aventador J is an Open Top Driving Machine

Lamborghini Aventador J

A true driver’s Lamborghini.

The newest, most exclusive, driver-oriented, machine has just been unveiled by Lamborghini at the 82nd Geneva Motor Show. The new Lamborghini Aventador J is a one-off, road-legal open top Aventador that offers nothing short of a pure driving experience.

The new Lamborghini Aventador J is designed to be an uncompromised approach to driving. It is the most extreme model offered by the Italian automaker and is based on the new Aventador LP700-4 model. The open top Aventador was named after the FIA world motorsport’s “Appendix J” classification of racecar, and features a new body without windshield, roof, pillars, and traditional luxury equipment.

The new Aventador J is based on the standard Aventador model and is powered by the same 6.5-liter V-12 engine, seven-speed ISR transmission, and all-wheel drive system. The new super car will come standard with a delightful absence of a roof, pillars, windshield, air conditioning, navigation, and sound system, thus dropping weight down to 3,465 lbs. when combined with other innovative weight saving technology.

Lamborghini has utilized new carbon fiber technology in the new open top Aventador J. The monocoque shell used in the standard Aventador was redesigned for the roofless application and two safety bars were installed behind the pair of seats. The seats themselves are made from lightweight Forged COMPOSITE and are fitted with carbon fiber “Carbonskin” that is made from woven fibers soaked in epoxy resin. The new material adorns much of the interior including the seats, dashboard, and trim.

The exterior of the Lamborghini Aventador J resembles that of the model it is based on, but has been taken to the extreme. New front and rear bumpers wear new fins to help generate more downforce at high speeds. Lamborghini mixed up a special rich, red exterior paint just for the one-off super car. The intense red color features a shimmering chrome effect and is contrasted by visible carbon fiber parts on the lower part of the body.

The front of the open top Aventador boasts large air inlets and a carbon fiber air scoop that help cool the braking system and improve overall aerodynamics. From the side, the front is designed to resemble a Formula 1 racecar with its aerodynamic, sculpted shape. The doors open upwards like the standard Aventador LP700-4, and provide a mounting point for the slim, angular side mirrors. Instead of a windshield, there are two small wind deflectors flanking a centrally mounted periscope-style rearview mirror.

The rear of the Lamborghini Aventador J is all business. A large, fixed spoiler generates a tremendous amount of downforce and works along with the carbon fiber diffuser to help keep its butt planted to the tarmac. Four centrally-mounted tailpipes are integrated into the diffuser and let out a thunderous V-12 roar. The taillights were designed with the typical Lamborghini “Y” and complement the sleek overall shape of the super car. The rest of the rear’s surface area is dedicated to heat dissipation and is covered by black mesh.

Even the wheels were specifically designed for the new Lamborghini Aventador J. The 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels feature a unique design. Five aluminum alloy spokes connect the outer rim to the center-locking hub while five carbon fiber blades are housed in between each spoke and create a fan effect to cool the braking system when in motion.

One important aspect of the Aventador J’s design is the pure driving experience. One way in which this idea is presented is the red stripe that runs from the front of the exterior all the way through the middle of the interior, separating both passengers, and to the rear of the super car. This stripe creates a flow from the exterior to the cockpit. Only a small control panel with engine and transmission controls is featured in the interior. The lack of any kind of convenience equipment is all part of the pure driving design.

Only one Lamborghini Aventador J will be built by the Italian automaker. The lone open top Aventador will go to one lucky customer for, from what we can surmise, will be an exorbitant price tag. There are no prototypes, no pre-production models, and no museum examples, just one street-legal pure driving machine.
