The driver’s Huracán.
Lamborghini, as with virtually every other automaker out there, is about constantly improving from performance and power to fuel consumption. The new Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 was given the ‘less is more’ approach to become an improvement for true drivers. The new Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 has less power, fewer driven wheels, and a lower overall weight compared to the standard Huracán LP 610-4 model, but it’s better.
“The Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 continues the Lamborghini tradition of pure, visionary and technology-driven models,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The rear-wheel drive model fits perfectly into our Huracán family, appealing to those wanting an even more intense driving experience, or who currently drive other rear-wheel drive marques and aspire to driving a Lamborghini. This is the purest expression of a Lamborghini to date, with class-leading technological refinements. It is a serious car for serious drivers: it is maximum driving fun.”
The entire super car has been redesigned and tailored to its new rear-wheel drive layout. The Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale (LPI) sensor system that tracks all three-dimensional movements has been re-tuned to accommodate for the two driven wheels as have the Magneto Rheological Suspension (MRS), steering, and stability control.
An optimal 40/60 front/rear weight distribution is featured on the Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 along with a 73-lb. drop in weight compared to the Huracán LP 610-4 for a total weight of 3,062 lbs. This low overall weight also comes thanks in part to the hybrid aluminum and carbon fiber chassis that helps to achieve a 5.3 lbs./hp weight to power ratio. The power management is entirely new and works with the new spring, anti-roll bar, and double-wishbone suspension setup, steering setup, and electronic driving aids.
The 5.2-liter V-10 engine in the Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 is less powerful than the LP 610-4 version, however there are fewer wheels to move. A total of 580 horsepower at 8,000 RPM and 398 lb-ft. of torque at 6,500 RPM is generated with 75-percent of the torque available at just 1,000 RPM. A cylinder deactivation system is also utilized to cut back on emissions and reduce consumption.
All of that power is also sent through the Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox to just the rear wheels with a special launch control system. Accelerating to 62 mph from rest takes 3.4 seconds while 124 mph is reached in just 10.1 seconds. Top speed is just shy of the magical 200 mph mark at 199 mph.
Visually, the Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 is younger and more enthusiastic for those that are looking to cause a ruckus and have some fun with a high-powered rear-wheel drive bull. The front fascia features new, larger air intakes to improve cooling and downforce. At the rear, the adjustable spoiler was nixed and a fixed spoiler sits in its place. A rising diffuser works with the rear spoiler to create a dynamic aesthetic and improve downforce and stability at high speeds.
Hitting the pavement are new 8.5J x 19 front and 11.0J x 19 rear Kari wheels shod in Pirelli PZero tires developed specifically for the rear-wheel drive setup of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2. Stopping is achieved by steel brakes with aluminum calipers designed for a lower overall weight and increased cooling for better track performance.
Inside, the Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 boasts a 12.3-inch high-res TFT instrument panel incorporating the latest Lamborghini Infotainment System II. The full range of interior options and appointments are available as well as the full range of exterior colors.
The new Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 will be available at Lamborghini dealerships shortly with a European MSRP of 150,000 euros.
