The BMW X4 is supposed to be one of those newfangled Sport Activity Coupes or whatever the Bavarians are calling them these days. They’re not exactly sports cars, SUVs, or traditional cars, but they do offer some driving excitement, especially the BMW X4 M40i. While it’s not a true M-car, the Swiss team at Daehler is making that gap just a bit smaller.
With the N55 turbocharged inline-six powering the BMW X4 M40i, Daehler was able to tap into some serious potential in the form of three stages of tuning. The first stage pushes the 3.0-liter engine up to 395 horsepower and 428 lb-ft. of torque. In Stage 2, the N55 motor rises to 414 horsepower and 428 lb-ft. of torque. In the third and final stage of tuning with new software and a stainless steel exhaust, the BMW X4 M40i puts down 424 horsepower and 435 lb-ft. of torque (electronically limited), which allows the Sport Activity Coupe to reach 62 mph from rest in 4.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 168 mph.
Daehler also worked its magic on the chassis of the X4 M40i to make it even more agile. The suspension benefits from a new setup with 18-way adjustable bound, rebound, and compression along with a significant lowering for an optimum center of gravity. A new high-performance brake system with eight-piston calipers and 400-mm discs brings the car to a halt more efficiently and quicker than before.
Even visually, the BMW X4 M40i gets a bit of a boost in the form of a new spoiler lip at the front axle that reduces lift. As an option, customers can also have a new rear wing mount installed for added downforce at the rear and a touch of aerodynamic athleticism.
If customers so choose, Daehler will even transform the interior to suit their tastes with the revised MID-display system showing additional information as the centerpiece.
