Beautifully weird.

It’s not every day that you see a Wiesmann. Heck, if you’re like us, you’re still staring out of your office window hoping that one day one gets dropped off even if it’s only for you to look at and drool over. So Jethro Bovington, the European Correspondent for Car and Driver, did us all a favor and traveled to Dülmen, Germany to visit the Wiesmann factory and to drive the new GT MF5.

The Wiesmann factory is a lizard-shaped car-building paradise that is spotless and serene. Here, workers build the cars by hand with the BMW drivetrains and other bodywork being delivered for assembly. The unique automobiles are designed after traditional British sports cars but feature modern technology and utilize BMW M drivetrains resulting in a reliable and high-quality thing of beauty.

Their big seller today is the GT MF5, a front-engined, rear-wheel drive classic sports car that features all sorts of stunning attention to detail. The Wiesmann GT MF5 weighs in at about 3,100 lbs. and is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, the same that is used in the X5 5 and X6 M models from BMW. It would cost approximately $200,000 in the U.S., but it’s not currently sold in North America. The German automaker is, however, likely to expand their reach across the pond soon.
