A Pebble Beach show-stopper is on the way.
For 50 years, motorsports have been engrained in the McLaren brand. The British automaker has injected its racing experience into all of its vehicles from the legendary F1 down to the 650S models today.
The new McLaren P1 is another example of how motorsports is used in an innovative, road-legal hypercar. The road-going P1 hybrid is incredibly potent and powerful, but many consumers wanted a more track-focused version and McLaren was more than happy to comply with the new P1 GTR.
At the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the new McLaren P1 GTR Design Concept will make its official debut. Five decades of racing and experience will be poured into the new track-only hypercar to create the ultimate weapon to take the checkered flag. Much of the technology, training, and resources used in the Formula 1 program at McLaren will be featured and offered to customers of the exclusive P1 GTR.
The new McLaren P1 GTR will go into production in June 2015, after the 375th and final road-going P1 is completed. The date will also mark the 20th anniversary of the McLaren F1 GTR’s win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as well.
The McLaren P1 Design Concept will be unveiled at an exclusive preview at the McLaren Brand Center on the 18th Fairway at the Pebble Beach Lodge at 6 PM EST on Friday, August 15th. The official public unveiling will take place over the weekend on the Pebble Beach Concept Lawn. While the show car will be a design concept, expect it to quickly move into the prototype and production stages quickly.
