And make all sorts of naughty sounds.

Mercedes-Benz and AMG have made some pretty impressive V-8 engines. They’ve been supercharged, turbocharged, and naturally-aspirated, and threw down massive amounts of German muscle. Now, the newest hand-built V-8 engine, named the M178, and it will be making its debut in the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT.

The new 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged M178 V-8 engine is going to be a true AMG V-8. The automaker’s motorsports knowledge was injected in the form of flow-optimized cylinder heads with zirconium alloy, an advanced valve assembly with cam followers and optimized valve springs, dry-sump lubrication, forged pistons, and more. Both of the turbochargers are packaged in a way that reduces lag and improves engine response for a quick, engaging driving experience.

Oh, and it’s going to be pretty potent too. Output for the M178 is pegged at 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque so there will be plenty of get up and go wherever this engine is used in the AMG model range. Four different driving modes will be available in the Mercedes-AMG GT and offer up four different exhaust notes, all of which sound absolutely fantastic.
