MTM Audi R8 GT3-2 Exposed

The only street legal rear-wheel drive Audi.

Following in the footsteps of the Audi R8 GT3 and A4 DTM racecars, the MTM R8 GT3-2 is one of the few Audi’s to ditch the famous Quattro all-wheel drive system for rear-wheel drive. This R8 dressed in racing bodywork and livery however, is street legal.

The new R8 GT3-2 creates a unique and pure driving experience due to its rear-wheel drive layout. Specialists around former chief of Audi Sport and Gumpert Apollo co-creator, Roland Mayer, have developed the new drivetrain featuring a new differential lock for the mid-engine sports car. MTM also added a supercharger to the 4.2-liter V-8, producing 0.55 BAR (7.97 PSI) of boost at a screaming 7,750 RPM. A new exhaust system has been fitted without using rear pipes or throttle valves for a loud and uncensored exhaust note. These modifications result in 550 horsepower and 428 lb-ft. of torque, sending the GT3-2 to 62 in just 3.9 seconds and to a top speed of 197 mph.

The exterior of the rear-wheel drive R8 gets an MTM makeover, for a more racecar-like appearance. At the front is a carbon fiber spoiler to increase downforce at the front axle, while carbon fiber side skirts reduce aerodynamic drag. At the rear MTM has fitted a large rear spoiler to improve rear downforce, and a new Optic pack R8V10 rear valence, tailpipe, and diffuser for an enhanced appearance.

Handling and driving dynamics have also been improved on the GT3-2, with the use of a new suspension, wheels, and brakes. The new adjustable MTM Audi suspension kit has been fitted and features the Bilstein B16 CSC coilovers for optimum performance. The suspension has been tuned to accommodate the 20-inch MTM Bimoto forged wheels. Measuring 9 x 20 ET 42 at the front and 12.5 x 20 ET 60 at the rear, the lightweight wheels are shod in Dunlop Sport Maxx GT or Michelin Cup Sport high performance tires. Stopping the GT3-2 is a set of ventilated MTM brakes at the front and Series brakes at the rear.

The MTM R8 GT3-2 is currently available. MTM also allows for current R8 owners to convert the car into a R8 GT3-2 instead of purchasing a new car through MTM. Pricing for the R8 GT3-2 and conversion have not been released.
