The hypercar loses its top and gains a $4.5 million-dollar price tag.
2013 has been very memorable year for Lamborghini. The Italian automaker has been celebrating its 50th anniversary with a number of special events alongside numerous unveilings from the Egoista to the extreme Aventador LP 720-4 50° Anniversario and the ultra-lightweight Veneno. As part of their year-long celebration, they’ve chopped the top off of their super-exclusive carbon fiber Veneno Coupe and will be producing nine of the topless wonders for customers at a hefty price.
The new Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is all about pure driving enjoyment, nothing less. The Italian automaker said goodbye to the roof and put a rollover bar in its place. This open-air feel gives drivers an even more adrenaline-filled experience as its jagged edges slice through the air.
Virtually every aspect of the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is functional and designed for performance. Every detail has a job, whether it’s cooling components, generating downforce, or optimizing drag. The entire exterior is made from carbon fiber and features sharp, angular bodywork that has become the main design element for the Italian brand.
At the front of the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is a sleek arrow-shaped fascia that cuts through air efficiently. The powerful front and rear fenders have integrated vents and intakes that cool the brakes and mid-mounted V-12 engine, while a smooth underbody keeps the hypercar glued to the pavement. The rear boasts an adjustable spoiler wing that draws inspiration from the company’s motorsports programs and a large diffuser with four integrated tailpipes.
Even the lightweight alloy wheels on the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster have a purpose other than spinning ‘round and ‘round. Each wheel has a carbon fiber ring around the rim that acts like a turbine when rotating to pull in cool air for the carbon ceramic brake system.
Behind the cockpit is the all-new 6.5-liter V-12 engine cranking out an overwhelming 750 horsepower. All four wheels are more than up for the task of putting all those raging bulls to the pavement as they are transferred through the seven-speed ISR transmission. This, along with the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster’s 3,278-lb. dry weight allows the hypercar to reach 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 221 mph. The power-to-weight ratio is also pegged at a very impressive 4.38 lbs/hp, making acceleration downright shocking at any speed.
All of what made its coupe sibling so special is also featured throughout the new $4.5 million-dollar Lamborghini Veneno Roadster. A pushrod suspension ensures maximum grip and handling while a lightweight and incredibly safe carbon fiber monocoque allows for nothing short of incredible performance dynamics.
Inside, carbon fiber is the name of the game. The naked carbon fiber monocoque is clearly visible in a number of different areas while two lightweight Forged Composite bucket seats hold driver and passenger in place. The seats wear woven carbon fiber CarbonSkin material along with the headliner and other parts of the cabin that is lighter than other traditional material.
Lamborghini only plans on producing nine Veneno Roadsters during 2014 for 3.3 million Euros (+/- $4.5 million). The featured paint on the hypercar will be the special Rosso Veneno, however customers will be able to pick and choose their own unique paint for their Roadster.
